Reviewing my Life Insurance Policies

It has been over two years since I last reviewed my insurance policies, so I figured it was time to check in on them - and I am glad I did! The main reason I am glad I took a look at them is because my contingent beneficiaries were all wrong! I live in this life insurance, estate planning world and even I forgot to update my beneficiaries when my daughter was born.  Please if anything, take this opportunity to stop reading and make sure your beneficiary statuses are correct. In addition to checking the beneficiary statuses, I wanted to see what [...]

Know the Basics before Investing in Bonds

Anyone who wants to retire comfortably needs to use investments to build a comfortable nest egg. Stocks and bonds offer much higher interest rates than savings accounts and certificates of deposits do, giving individuals higher rates of return. While many people have at least basic knowledge about stocks and the stock market, only a few truly understand how to invest in bonds successfully. For the past few years it has been my goal to purchase undervalued stocks that have been paying a growing dividend for the past 20 years.  I use a number of metrics described in detail below, but the main reason I write and share these posts to keep myself accountable to the long term growth and build up of this account.  Notwithstanding, for the first time in a long time, I didn't even bother to create a watch list in August, but I did buy multiple lots versus my usual one time purchase.  I used July's list and bought more lots than [...]

September 2015 Net Worth Update

I have not been looking forward to writing this post.  With an increased debt load this past month and the shit storm that has been the market I am positive this is going to be the biggest one time drop since I started tracking my net worth a few years back.  Things are not going to be good when assets decrease and debts increase.  Let's get to calculating. Ouch assets are down 2.2%. I know this is a short term drop.  I bought triple the amount of equities than what I usually do, so when the market comes back it will be [...]
