What States Watch Internet Porn the Most?

CNBC is airing a special on Wednesday, July 15, 2009 titled, “Porn – Business of Pleasure.”  Whenever CNBC does one of these specials, they supplement the hype with random quiznodes and facts on their accompanying site and along with that special they are having.

Well CNBC provides us with the Top US States for Online Pornography.  The slideshow (which is safe for work as long as you don’t mind 18 font screaming the word porn at you) comes from the Journal of Economic Perspectives, but since it is a members only site I have not been able to read the whole study.

Top 10 States that Subscribe to Porn?

  1. Utah
  2. Alaska
  3. Mississippi
  4. Hawaii
  5. Oklahoma
  6. Arkansas
  7. North Dakota
  8. Louisiana (tie)
  9. Florida (tie)
  10. West Virginia

Beyond the fact that this is my blog, you have to ask yourself why am I talking about this subject?  I am a moderate libertarian which basically means I am a republican for purposes of fiscal responsibility (Think Reagan not W.) but have no interest in my government telling me, within reason, what I can or can not watch.

Well, I thought the fact that 7/8 of the top 10 states for Porn Subscription are the ones likely to bitch and moan about religious conservatism and limit what (legal, i.e. consenting adults) porn I or any other adult can watch.

I know this is beyond personal finance but I would love to hear some thoughts?

  1. Hah! Awesome post!

It’s hysterical that the top 3 states in your findings are the among the leaders of the Conservative movement. Hopefully next time an uptight politician from one of these states speaks out about sex & perversion, or an old WASPy conservative judge passes judgment, this data will get tossed in their face.

  2. Again the liberal CNBC targets conservatives. So who watches CNBC anyway
No significant data has ever been collected or proven on liberal vs conservatives and porno. This is fact. It is time to stop lying and tell the truth. The only people I know that are into porno are liberals but then that does not prove anything either.
Just another smear campaign against good hard working people that are for freedom.

    • No Data, nice “fallacy of small numbers” there. “The only people I know that are into porno are liberals.” How did you find this out, anyways? Maybe because said “liberals” are more likely to talk about sexuality, as an integral and healthy part of being human. Your conservative friends likely vocally bemoan the moral decline of our great country, while shamelessly spanking it furiously to porn behind closed doors (the kinkier, the better, no doubt).
