Accountability Leads to Success

Thursday was our quarterly meeting for work, where sales accomplishments and goals were discussed.  One theme that echoed today was, you guessed it, Accountability Leads to Success.  That sentiment is short and sweet…4 simple words whose truth have been proven over time.

First, we should define Accountability.  Merriam Webster defines accountability as,

the quality or state of being accountable

Way to go Merriam! Wasn’t I taught in middle school that I shouldn’t define a word using the root of the same word in the definition?  Wikipedia offers a little more help,

It is often used synonymously with such concepts as responsibility, answerability, enforcement, blameworthiness, liability and other terms associated with the expectation of account-giving

The partners were talking about accountability when dealing with prospecting, marketing and/or similar topics as they relate to a wealth managment firm.  This blog is not about sales, marketing, prospecting – it is about personal finance.

Who keeps you Accountable?

I have absolutely no proof, but I suspect that in most marriages your spouse is the one to keep you accountable for personal finance decisions, regardles of whether that decisions has to do with paying down debt (see left side bar of debt!), properly investing according to your combined risk tolerence, savings schedule, etc.

Interestingly, I also think this blog keeps me accountable – in my first blog post EVER, hell my first sentenance on the world wide web I stated,

I figured I needed to start somewhere so why not lay it on the line for the readers of this blog, while keeping myself accountable in the months and years to come.

I don’t know why (maybe a more experienced blogger out there can answer the question) but this blog does.  I think it has to do with knowing that A DAMN good amount of people checking out this site daily will be looking at my credit card debt INSPIRES ME! For that I thank everyone that comes on here.

Who keeps you accountable? Do you have a personal coach? Do you rely on a spouse, a brother, a friend? and if you are one of those rare people who doesn’t need another to hold them to their word – I ABSOLUTELY WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU!
