7 Links–My Journey to Millions

I have never participated in a Blog meme but when Glen from Free From Broke called me out, how do I not rise to the occasion? I am supposed to pick out:

  • Your most beautiful post
  • Your most popular post
  • Your most controversial post
  • Your most helpful post
  • A post whose success surprised you
  • A post you feel didn’t get the attention it deserved
  • The post that you are most proud of

In the past 3 years of blogging I have over 575 posts (granted some are guest posts) but that gives me a lot to choose from.  I hope you enjoy my choices.

My Most Beautiful Post

When I think about the word beautiful I think about sharing something with readers that may be a little deeper into the essence then Evan than talking about taxes, estate planning or dividend paying stocks.  I would say that I started strong in my first week of blogging with:

My Most Popular Post

Popular can meat a lot of things but I’ll go with pure page views from google analytics.  My most popular post has received a bit over 6% of my total traffic from when I first started.  Again considering I have 575 posts it is really incredible to me that one post can garner so much attention.

My Most Controversial Posts

I have some fun rants but I think my most controversial post has to be:

I have to take this opportunity to share some of my other posts that often receive fun comments:

My Most Helpful Post

I have always had a hard time categorizing my blog beyond a General Personal Finance blog with some basic estate planning and law information all while tracking my growth.  Well it was one of those basic law posts that seems to have helped people:

That post, more than any, has provided conversations and emails that may have led people to start and clean up their fiscal lives.

A Post Whose Success Surprised Me

At the end of 2011/Beginning of 2010 brought some amazing tax changes, and I wrote about them:

I was shocked how much traffic this post received and that it was found even upon WSJ on a search for the information.

A Post that I Believe Didn’t Get the Attention it Deserved

Since I had next to zero readers when I first started blogging, I limited this search for my first 6 months and came up with a post that I link back to a lot:

A Post I am Very Proud of

Unlike most PF Bloggers I didn’t hit rock bottom and then start blogging (although I did have a formidable amount of debt, but I have always had the liquidity to pay it off, but chose not to).  So, while I am very proud of the moment I paid off $18K in CC debt, or that I am building multiple streams of income, or that I am paying off other debt at lightening speed, etc. not one post stands out in my mind.  Maybe I am making this particular request a little bit too much about me.

Do you have a favorite post of mine?

  1. Yes, the Know yourself to overcome yourself is underrated… I like it. Thanks for the good reads… since I’ve recently discovered you, it was good for me to read a few.

  2. Man, I remember that teacher article well. To say you got a few heated responses would be an understatement!

  3. My favorite post of yours has got to be the “What Do You Do at Night?” post — I’m not even sure where I found it, but I know I linked to it from some other site. Anyway, it got me to thinking more about amping up my side gig. And now with my uncertain job situation that becomes even more important. So… Thanks!!!!!! I can’t wait to read all of your links above, but for now, I think I’d better get ready for work…. while I still have work to go to!!!!

  4. Haha, I remember a few of these posts, like the best asset and the teachers post. It’s these sort of posts that I remember and enjoy the most. 🙂
